ReWired Project

Arts Train

The ArtsTrain project began in September 2008 and was created and developed by the leading social enterprise Mytime Active. ArtsTrain is devised to bring new creative music-making opportunities to young people in Bromley and South London, targeting young people who would not otherwise have access to such provision. Since the start of the project ArtsTrain has made a genuine impact on young peoples’ lives and has transformed the cultural landscape of music within South East London. The year round music programme includes workshops in instrumental improvisation, music technology, MC-ing, DJ-ing and singer song writing.

ArtsTrain has been working in partnership with Bexley Music Hub to create a multi-instrumental, cross-genre improvising and composing ensemble for young people aged 13-19 in the borough. The Sub Urban Orchestra provides instrumentalists and vocalists with new opportunities in composition and improvisation and gives young people from different musical backgrounds the chance to work together in an ensemble context.

This project also gives trainee animateurs and music leaders an exciting music leadership opportunity, public performance opportunities for young people and serves as a model of good practice in inclusive music education and creativity.
